Why do people make print requests....

Fri Jan 11, 2008, 4:27 AM
...and after the artist goes through the process of re-editing a bigger image file for printing, then nobody buys the damn print?

Is it just to annoy artists and bully them to do more work on old pictures?

I don't understand it.

That happened to me.
Does anyone actually buy prints?

Well, I sold ONE print so far ... so, that happens :)

The "request and not buy" thing happens on many of my images....

I can imagine that at least a few of those are caused by the size of the available prints. The first time I played around a bit with the prints I was surprised that the system would have refused to offer the print in sized I would have liked to get. That's when I decided that dA prints and astrophotography are a bad combination ;)

and it's opened up my eyes.
It's given me a thirst
that's so hard to satisfy.
in my case 50% bought requested prints and 50% ignored :)

Sometimes people accidentally click the request as print link by mistake when they meant to click the download link. This happened to me and I found out that the request goes directly to the artist without asking for confirmation from the requester. I was embarrassed and apologized profusely to the artist who's print I accidentally requested. He understood and was cool about my mistake. Perhaps DA should insert a confirmation link after the request link to safeguard against this happening. :twocents:

:peace:
Yeah, I've sold one also. I think DA must be making a pretty penny out of the prints scheme.
I'm considering taking down all my prints and making them available elsewhere.

I normally ask the person before I do anything else, 100% of the time they don't give me a response, so I don't adjust anything

yeah well I usually get these print requests mixed in with a lot of faves, which I mostly bulk-delete, so I don't really always know who made the request ...

if only we could trace the requests back later ...

Ha, well I don't get enough of either, so it's a bit easier for me
